Call for applications: Post-doctoral Fellowship in Hebrew

Palaeography

Function: Full-time post-doctoral research associate (35 hours/week)
Initial duration: 1 year
Starting date: 1 November 2022


As part of the project: ‘Hebrew Manuscripts in the Digital Age: Palaeography, Publishing,
Cataloguing’ (PIs Judith Olszowy-Schlanger and Daniel Stökl Ben Ezra)
Location: Paris, France: Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, PSL, Section of History and Philology.
The candidate will also be affiliated with the research team EA 4116 - SAPRAT-Savoirs et pratiques du du Moyen Âge à l’époque contemporaine


Activities: The post-doctoral fellow will be responsible for creating online palaeographic descriptions to feed the Hebrew Palaeography Album HebrewPal, database. This database, housed by Oxford University, Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, has been designed as an international collaboration between the Jewish Book Culture in the Islamicate World project (Ludwig-Maximilians Universität, Munich/Oxford University, DFG/AHRC) and the EPHE, PSL.

Required skills:

- Fluency in Hebrew and possibly a Jewish language
- Proficiency and fluency in writing in English
- Training in the study of Hebrew manuscripts
- Database implementation experience/knowledge
- Experience/motivation for scientific research


Required profile:

- PhD in Hebrew and Jewish studies, specializing in medieval studies, manuscripts,
book history
- PhD defended less than 5 years ago
- Ability to work as a part of a team
- Excellent organization skills and sense of responsibility
