7th Intensive course in Hebrew palaeography, 16th-18th September 2019, Dipartimento di beni culturali, via degli Ariani 1, Ravenna (see program)

This three-day intensive course in Hebrew palaeography will introduce participants to various aspects of Hebrew palaeography: Qumran manuscripts; the evolution of the Hebrew script in the western world from the oriental square writing of the north-east (Babylonian) and of the south-west (Palestinian); Venosa and its role in the evolution of Hebrew writings in Italy; the three main traditions of Western Hebrew scripts: Italian, Sephardic and Ashkenazi. Reading exercises of Qumran manuscripts in square characters, and of manuscripts in Oriental, Italian, Sephardic and Ashkenazic semi-cursive and cursive scripts.

Classes and workshops will be conducted in English and Italian by Professor Judith Schlanger (EPHE, Paris), Professor Corrado Martone (Università di Torino), and Professor Mauro Perani (Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna).
